What does a Picker do?

A picker selects merchandize from shelves and prepares items for shipping. Pickers are found in warehouses, distribution centres and production facilities. Also known as picker packer, order picker or warehouse picker.

Picker Role

Our company seeks a Picker to join our warehouse team, pick items from shelves, and prepare items for shipping. Working as a Picker, you will follow print or digital order sheets to select items from bins, follow any special instructions, and deliver items to pallets for shipping. Your duties will also include reporting broken or damaged items, conducting stock checks, and following health and safety guidelines.

Picker Duties

  • Ensuring warehouse aisles are clear from obstructions and reporting safety issues.
  • Collecting stock order reports and picking the items requested.
  • Delivering picked items to the shipping and dispatch area.
  • Placing items on pallets and securing them with shrink wrap and strapping.
  • Assisting with the loading and unloading of trucks.
  • Abiding by health and safety guidelines, policies, and regulations.

Picker Requirements

  • At least two GCSEs, including math and English.
  • Physical fitness for standing and walking throughout your shift.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and work ethic.
  • Familiarity with tools used for the position.
