What does a Commis Chef do?
Commis chefs are novice chefs who work under chef de parties in commercial kitchens to expand their culinary knowledge and skills. They perform various kitchen duties, such as assisting chef de parties in meal preparations, receiving deliveries, and rotating stock.
Commis Chef Role
We are recruiting an enthusiastic Commis Chef to work in our commercial kitchen under the guidance of the Chef De Parties. You will be responsible for various kitchen duties, such as accepting deliveries and moving supplies and ingredients into stock, reporting equipment breakages, ensuring the correct storage of food items, sweeping and mopping kitchen floors, and preparing meal ingredients.
Commis Chef Duties
- Receiving ingredients and supplies and moving them into stock.
- Washing, peeling, chopping, and preparing fruits, vegetables, fish, and meat.
- Removing outdated and spoiled ingredients from freezers, refrigerators, and cold rooms.
- Following the Chef De Parties' instructions and preparing seasonings, salads, and sauces when requested.
- Reacting to spillages and breakages, sweeping and mopping floors.
- Assisting with presenting and plating meals during busy periods.
Commis Chef Requirements
- Food Hygiene Course completion.
- Diploma in Catering, Professional Cookery, or Professional Culinary Arts (preferred).
- Previous commercial kitchen or restaurant experience (preferred).
- Physical fitness for long shifts of standing and walking.
- Good organisation and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and during weekends and Bank Holidays.
